Everybody should be aware of learning disabilities symptoms, especially on children stage. Many wrong perceptions about learning problems make students get bad labeling from everyone around them. In reality, they just need special treatment to help them study well. That’s why inclusion class becomes the best way for students to learn together. But, before going to inclusion school, you should know learning problem characteristics that may occur on your children. Parents could be the first assessor to notice is there anything different on their children before going to psychologist.
More precise diagnosis could be gotten with learning disorder test which conducted by a certified education psychologist. However, parents and teachers could get early diagnosis about the student’s condition. You may start by assessing children’s capability to read. If an elementary student still gets difficulty to read or write on their second class, he/she may have dyslexia condition. Student with dyslexia has problem to make connections between sounds and letters, also with recognizing and spelling words. How many hard the student tries to read or write, he/she still stuck on those difficulties.
Here, more characteristics of people with dyslexia. During conversations, they fail to understand what other people are saying. In class situation, students may get no idea when their teacher explains about something. They need longer time to understand some particular lessons comparing to non-dyslexia people. Besides, they have difficulty to organize either spoken or written language. People with dyslexia often spell wrong on some words. For example, if they actually want to write a-p-p-l-e, the may instead write a-p-l-p-e. This wrong spelling is due to their dyslexia condition.
When going back to their childhood, people with dyslexia may start to speak late. If common toddlers start to speak from 2 years, their speaking ability start comes in older age. So, if your toddlers have delayed on their ability to speak, you may more aware about dyslexia condition. Moreover, people with dyslexia have bad self-expression. They cannot recall well about some particular words, and often use word substitutions like “stuff” and “things”. Comparing to other students, they have trouble to learn new vocabulary, both from hearing or reading.
