Tips to Help You and Your Child Prepare for an Exam

As the complexity of children’s classes and lessons increase it can often be difficult for parents to keep up, leaving those who genuinely want to assist their child in improving their grades and learning abilities to feel as though there isn’t anything they can do to assist. If this sounds a little too familiar and you are looking for ways in which you can help your child to not only increase their learning but enjoy it without becoming a professor yourself, you’re in the right place, so keep reading.

Make Your Own Set of Cheat Cards

The next time your child finished their study session, sit down with them and find out which parts of the lesson presented the most challenges. Often these aspects of the lesson are identifiable by the writing, crossing out and then rewriting of notes throughout their notebook. Copy down these individual lessons and corrections and make your own set of cheat notes with small pieces of card. Leave these pieces of card around the house and, during seemingly random times, quiz your children. While you may not have a working knowledge of trigonometry, these cards will allow you to provide feedback on a correct or incorrect answer.

Help Them to Make Learning Fun

If you were to ask your children how enjoyable they thought learning at school was, it’s likely you will receive an unenthusiastic answer. While there isn’t much you may be able to to liven up the lessons, there is a lot you can do to increase the enjoyment of study. If your child enjoys the Star Wars movies, take a look at the Groupon Coupons page for Tilly’s and swap out their regular pen for a Lightsaber pen. Additionally, notebooks with their favorite characters or pop-singers can be great ways to brighten up what is often seen as a boring task.

Learn Along with Them

If your child is struggling to learn a certain aspect of their lesson and you aren’t able to understand it either, take the opportunity to learn it with them. Children take cues from their parents, so if your children can see you actively interested in learning something which they are also struggling with, they are much more likely to pay attention. In many cases, your children may grasp the lesson quicker than yourself leading them to teach you! Not only does teaching somebody else a lesson help to improve their own lesson retention, children often love nothing more than pretending to be smarter than their parents, so play along with it.

Just because you aren’t able to understand each of your child’s lessons doesn’t mean that you can’t help them learn and enjoy them. Along with these tips, speak with your child’s teacher and ask for other ideas for becoming involved in your child’s study time.
