Surviving Your First Year of College
Thanks to the development of Internet and cinematography, we all start to have an idea about the college. By going to college, people usually associate themselves with the character from the movie, who has a perfect life: good academic performance, many friends, parties and interesting social meetings. But, unfortunately, not everyone can get this since no one has canceled such things as bullying, the difference in social status and insufficient money resources. Although, in the 21st century these things are no longer understood since for many it still has great importance what a person is in him/herself.
Below, you may find tips for college life and tricks how to spend your first year with a bang.
- Do not be afraid of the unknown.
Many ruin their social life by the fact that they are afraid to move somewhere or get acquainted with new people, basing their thoughts on the fact that they do not know anyone. Even when you need someone to help you with college tasks you can find assistance with some reliable resource indeed. One thing that you will understand at the university is that friends do not necessarily appear from nowhere. Important is to interact with people, express thoughts, wonder and ask questions. Do this within reason, of course. If you are interested in people, they will show interest in you. It is the best to start this during the Freshman Week when everyone is in the same boat and actively look for people to be friends. Thus, you get to know what is a freshman in college.
Communicate with your neighbors around the room / apartment.
This does not mean that you should be best friends with them all, but keep in mind that you are together sharing the common wall almost 24/7. Bad relations with neighbors spoil energy in your place of residence; namely, this place is your new home, therefore keep it in such conditions that you feel calm and protected from external problems in it; lastly, a feeling of ‘willing to return’ soon is essential. There will be times when you will be angry with one of the neighbors for drinking out your milk, or for the other because he or she did not wash a bowl after use, but, generally, being in a good relationship can be helpful.
- Be active.
Being active means being interesting not only for other people but, first of all, for yourself. The first year in college is quite a difficult period in the life of every person because it is a huge responsibility for themselves and for their further actions. For some, for example, it ‘s hard to determine the specialty that they would like to study to find themselves successful later on, at least for themselves. It is your activity in the social life of the college that will give you the opportunity to not only learn in practice what you like to do and what not but also the opportunity not to lose a heart [in case you do not get something, or will miss home].
- ‘No’ to a constant nightlife.
Parties are an integral part of the college but do not let it be abused by. Not only will this disturb your daily routine, worsen your health and knock out other areas of your life, but it can still greatly affect your academic performance. After all, study and knowledge are the reasons why you have decided to enter a college.
- Do not allow yourself to spend all the money that was allocated for a month at a time.
The question of money regards each student in a college. Since you are a student, you want to go out of course, however, keeping in mind that financial capacity is one of the key factors of complete sustainability is essential for a productive college start; at least, the bars will not go away anywhere. These study tips for college freshmen sound funny but at the time are too realistic. How cheaply drinks on campuses would not seem like in total, if you add up all these purchases, you run the risk of getting into debt, or you may not be able to afford the necessary purchases such as food and bills. Drinking can be a famous and ‘common’ student’s fun but being aware of other leisure options available to you, for example, gym, society and club meetings sometimes help.
- Do not try to fit in.
In every college, there is a group of people who seem to be very popular; in other words, they communicate with everyone, and everyone wants to be ‘approved’ by this group. People try to change themselves and behave differently only to be loved and approved by others. In the end, it all will not matter when you graduate from college. The only thing that will have an impact is what you took out of the walls of the college and whom you became. Changing yourself in order just to please others will not bring anything useful to your later life, except as more pushing away from achieving your desires

6 Things to Remember When Starting University
The prospect of staring your freshman year at university will be more than a little exciting. Yet, the actions you take over the next few years will determine your academic and social success at college, as well as pave your future. University is a time for fun, study, long-lasting friendships and to explore the unknown. For this reason, check out the six things to remember before starting university.
University will be filled with different people from all walks of life. It is essential to enter the experience with an open mind, because preconceived notions about people can prevent you from establishing friendships. There’s a good chance that the people you meet at university will become life-long friends who will stick by your side from your first year, to 50 years in the future.
You might plan to work your way towards a specific career once university is over, so you may only focus on classes that will support your major. However, it’s a smart idea to sample different classes, as you could potentially find another subject that interests you more – or you could learn from a class that will give you a different angle in your major year. Speak to a professor for helpful advice, and consider studying a subject for fun.
There’s a notion that students have to rough it when it comes to accommodation. This is, now, somewhat a dated view on student living arrangements. Nowadays, there is no reason for students to settle; in fact, living arrangements can range from luxurious to simple but comfortable. If you’re after luxury, then Collegiate offer private student accommodation for those who want the best student living experience possible.
University shouldn’t be all work and no play. If it is, then you will burn out quickly, and you will have no social circle to provide emotional support to help you get to the finish line. Don’t keep yourself locked up inside your dorm room, instead find a balance between studying and socializing. Regularly socialize with your dormmates or friends from class to let your hair down, chat and have a little fun. You’ll feel much happier and relaxed, as a result, so you will return to an essay with a clear mind.
Many people may often tell you your university years are the best of your life. However, when you’re surrounded by textbooks, exam dates and essay deadlines, you might not quite believe them, but they are telling the truth. No other time in your life will offer more academic and social freedom, which is why you should embrace every opportunity that comes your way. Attend your lectures, speak to your professors and peers, go out with friends and sign up for societies – whatever makes you happy.
University life can be expensive. Not only do you have to buy textbooks and stationery, but you’ll also need to regularly pay for your rent, groceries, utility bills and clothing. Most of your money might also be spent funding your active social life. That’s why you must always remember to budget your finances to ensure you never run out of money during your college years.
